MetaMovements Instructors: Jay

Jay has been surrounded by conga beats and clave rhythms all his life. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was inspired by a family of salsa-lovers, musicians, dancers and promoters. He chose to follow the path of dancing, and was mentored, trained and influenced by legendary icons of the Puerto Rican dance culture, including Felipe Polanco, Tito Ortos, Jhesus Aponte, Jayson Molina, and Stacey Lopez, among others. He soon excelled in Pachanga, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo and Salsa styles.

Ever since he attended the very first Puerto Rico Salsa Congress in 1996, he has been sharing his unique flavor with dancers from around the world. He is widely known for his smooth, comfortable lead on the dance floor, the energy and passion he exudes to the beats, the fun and playfulness that surrounds his body movements, and the deep connection he is able to achieve with his partners on each song.

Jay started teaching dance in 1999. His current projects include sharing and spreading dance as a vehicle to greater emotional and physical health, creating a positive impact in the lives and communities of those who need it the most. Through community service and social initiatives, he envisions teaching others not only to dance and enjoy the music, but also to teach them how to get the most joy from it, and in turn how to help them transform their health and their lives.
