Bomba By The Sea: A Rumbombazo!
On Sunday, July 20, we’re excited to join forces with BOMBAntillana for an uplifting gathering that honors our shared roots, ancestral resilience, and sacred connection to the ocean through the powerful musical traditions of Rumba from Cuba and Bomba from Borikén (Puerto Rico).

About the event
This event is a culminating celebration of MetaMovements’ DeCu Weekender and will feature a dynamic, collaborative presentation by members of our DeCu Music Team, led by Javier Jeffer, MetaMovements’ 2025 Artist in Residence, and the singers, dancers and percussionists of BOMBAntillana.
Attendees will also have the chance to learn about the history and cultural significance of both genres, engage in call-and-response songs, and try out basic Bomba and Rumba movements. The event will include a non-religious altar honoring our ancestors and the ocean, along with a creative space where participants can make visual art inspired by the day’s themes — all coming together for a joyful and meaningful afternoon by the sea.
