What Is Cuban Modern Technique?
It is a series of dance exercises and combinations, created in the 1960s in Havana, Cuba that is a fusion of European ballet, and traditional Afro-Cuban dances and rhythms that help beginner, intermediate and advanced dancers improve quickly. Today it is essential for dancers of all levels in Cuba, and is simply called “Clase Tecnica” or “Technique Class”.
In the first hour we'll focus on a few important building blocks from the technique in-depth, helping each student develop natural flowing movement, and improve posture, extension and lines. It will feature the undulations of the torso, the fluidity of the arms, and the strength of the core that are some of the most noted elements of the style.
The second hour will be choreography-based where we will apply foundational skills to a series of "flows" set to Cuban rhythms, as well as traveling dance sequences that take your dancing to new heights!
